Counselling for Neurodivergent Adults
– ADHD, Autism & AuDHD Support UK
Neurodivergent-informed support for adults across the UK
You may be looking for counselling for anxiety, burnout, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, stress or life changes.
You may also be looking for a counsellor who understands what it can be like to move through the world with ADHD, autistic, AuDHD or dyslexia – whether or not that’s the main reason you are seeking support.
For some people, neurodivergence is simply part of who they are and not the focus of counselling at all. For others, it is something they want to explore – for example, understanding long-standing patterns, processing grief around past experiences, or making sense of why certain things felt harder than they seemed to for other people.
Or someone close to you is neurodivergent – a partner, child or family member – and you would value space to reflect and understand things better.
We work in a way that adapts to you. There is no expectation to mask, and no diagnosis is needed.

What to expect in a session
Format
Sessions are 60 minutes and take place online, so you can join from wherever you are in the UK. We’ll send you a link to connect with your counsellor. We also offer some in-person appointments in Bristol.
Getting started
You do not need to prepare anything or know what to say. We can talk about whatever feels ok for you.
How sessions feel
Some people talk freely. Others bring specific situations, examples. Some sessions may feel more focused, others more exploratory.
No social pressure
There is no expectation to make eye contact, sit still or follow a rigid structure. You can take time to think, pause or move around.
Your pace
We go at your pace.
Our experience
Our counsellors work regularly with neurodivergent adults – including people who recognise traits without a label, those navigating relationships and family dynamics where neurodivergence plays a part, and those with a formal diagnosis.
Many clients come to us not because neurodivergence is the focus, but because they want a counsellor who understands it.
Our team brings experience from clinical practice as well as from supporting neurodivergent people in families, friendships and professional settings.
Where we work
We provide online counselling for adults across the UK, including London and other major cities, so you can access support wherever you are based. Some clients also work with us from elsewhere in Europe while living or working abroad.
As our team is Bristol-based, we also offer some in-person appointments in the Bristol area.
FAQs
Do I need a formal diagnosis?
No. We work with adults with a diagnosis, those awaiting assessment, and those who recognise ADHD, autistic, AUDHD or dyslexic traits without seeking a diagnosis.
Is this different from standard counselling?
Neurodivergent-informed counselling recognises differences in processing, communication and sensory experience. Sessions adapt to you rather than expecting you to adapt to neurotypical ‘norms’.
What is neurodivergent-informed and neuro-affirming counselling?
Neurodivergent-informed counselling means your counsellor has a working understanding of how ADHD, autism, AuDHD and dyslexia can shape communication, relationships, emotional experience, self-esteem and daily life.
Neuro-affirming counselling goes further. It recognises neurodivergence as a natural variation in how people think, process and experience the world, rather than something to be fixed or normalised.
This means sessions can feel more accessible, more comfortable and more relevant to your lived experience.
We also understand that you are unique and you may spend time explaining how things are for you.
Will I have to mask?
No. You can be direct, stim, avoid eye contact – whatever feels natural.
Can you diagnose me?
No. We provide counselling, not diagnostic assessments. If this is something you’re looking for, your GP or organisations in the Resources section below can signpost to NHS or private assessment services.
What if I struggle to explain how I'm feeling?
Our counsellors will try to help. We can work with examples, patterns, and we can sit with uncertainty.
Is this counselling or ADHD / autism coaching?
We provide counselling and psychotherapy rather than coaching.
At times, counselling may also include some practical reflection around patterns, communication, self-understanding or what helps day to day — but the overall focus is therapeutic rather than goal- or productivity-based.
Coaching for neurodivergence can be focused on practical strategies around organisation, routines, productivity, executive functioning or accountability.
Counselling offers space to explore emotional wellbeing, relationships, burnout, identity, grief, self-esteem and long-standing patterns — whether or not neurodivergence is the main focus.
Some people benefit from both at different times.
Can counselling help with autistic burnout or ADHD overwhelm?
Counselling can help you understand burnout, overwhelm, masking and emotional fatigue, and explore what support or change may help you feel more sustainable over time.
Can I have counselling if my partner or child is neurodivergent?
Yes. Some people seek counselling because neurodivergence is part of their relationship or family context, and they want support navigating communication, emotions or understanding.
